McDonnell Douglas aircraft

McDonnell Douglas was the American planemaker formed when the McDonnell and Douglas companies merged, with headquarters in St. Louis. Its St. Louis division built the F-4 Phantom II fighter, listed here as a military aircraft, and its airliners were built by the Douglas division at Long Beach, California. After the DC-8, DC-9 and DC-10, a new naming scheme joining the M of McDonnell and the D of Douglas began with the MD-80. The MD-90 and the MD-11 trijet followed, and the company merged with Boeing in 1997. Boeing renamed the MD-95 the 717 and still supports the fleet.
