Delta SkyMiles earn 5 miles per $1 on Classic fares and 7 on Extra, 2 on Delta Basic and none on Main Basic. Medallion status adds 2 (Silver) to 6 (Diamond) miles per $1, and a Delta Amex card adds 2 or 3. Medallion status needs $5,000 (Silver), $10,000 (Gold), $15,000 (Platinum) or $28,000 (Diamond) in MQDs.

How this calculator works

Enter the ticket price, then pick your fare type, Medallion status and Delta Amex card. The calculator multiplies the price by the miles-per-dollar rate for each part and adds them up. It also counts the MQDs the ticket earns, adds any MQD Boost from your card, and shows how far that takes you toward each Medallion tier. The result updates as you change an answer.

What the inputs mean

  • Ticket price: the base fare plus carrier-imposed charges, without government taxes and fees. Your receipt shows it.
  • Fare type: Classic (or Refundable), Extra, Delta Basic (the Basic fare in Delta Comfort, First, Premium Select or Delta One) or Main Basic. Other Delta Comfort, First, Premium Select and Delta One fares earn at the Classic or Extra rate of the fare you bought.
  • Medallion status: the tier you hold when you fly.
  • Delta Amex card: the SkyMiles card you pay with.

How SkyMiles and MQDs are earned

On most tickets Delta pays miles per dollar, not per mile flown: 5 per $1 on Classic or Refundable, 7 on Extra, 2 on Delta Basic and none on Main Basic. Medallion members add 2 (Silver), 3 (Gold), 4 (Platinum) or 6 (Diamond) miles per $1, except on Main Basic. A Delta Amex card adds 2 miles per $1 (Blue or Gold) or 3 (Platinum or Reserve) on Delta purchases.

MQDs are $1 per $1 of ticket price, and Main Basic earns none. A Platinum card adds $1 MQD for every $20 spent and a Reserve card $1 for every $10, and both give an MQD Headstart of $2,500 each year. Medallion status needs $5,000 (Silver), $10,000 (Gold), $15,000 (Platinum) or $28,000 (Diamond) in MQDs.

Example

A $500 Classic ticket for a Gold Medallion paying with a Platinum card earns 2,500 base miles, 1,500 Gold bonus miles and 1,500 card miles: 5,500 miles. It earns $500 MQDs from the ticket plus a $25 MQD Boost: $525 MQDs.

What it does not cover

Exception fares, such as cruise, bulk, consolidator and tour package tickets, earn a percentage of the distance flown, set by the fare class. Partner flights also earn differently.
