McDonnell Douglas MD-83

The MD-83 is the long-range member of the MD-80 series. Outside it matches the MD-82 and MD-88, 147 ft 10 in long with a 107 ft 10 in wingspan, but it carries auxiliary fuel tanks in the fuselage, 1,130 US gallons in all, which take some of the lower-deck cargo space and raise its usable fuel to 26,426 liters. Its maximum take-off weight rises to 160,000 pounds, and Boeing's planning charts show it with Pratt & Whitney JT8D-219 engines. It is certified for up to 172 passengers. A few still fly in US airspace.
