Lockheed C-5M Super Galaxy

The C-5M Super Galaxy is the modernized C-5. Four General Electric F138 engines, the military CF6-80C2-L1F, give 51,250 pounds of thrust each in place of the old TF39s, and a diagnostic system watches more than 7,000 test points. The Air Force says the new engines add 22 percent more thrust, shorten the takeoff roll by 30 percent and climb 58 percent faster. It carries up to 281,001 pounds on 36 pallet positions. With 120,000 pounds of cargo it flies about 4,800 nautical miles unrefueled, and with air refueling its range is limited only by crew endurance. Five sets of landing gear with 28 wheels carry it.
