Japan Airlines Miles and FLY ON Points Calculator
Unofficial. See the JAL Mileage Bank miles and FLY ON Points a Japan Airlines flight earns. Rates as published by Japan Airlines.
JAL pays flight miles on the distance times your booking class's rate, plus a Mile-Up Bonus for members with a level. FLY ON Points, which decide your level, are the flight miles times a route multiplier plus a flight bonus. Choose your airports, connections included.
How this calculator works
Choose your airports and your booking class. The calculator measures each flight's great-circle distance with the same airport data as our Great Circle Distance Calculator and multiplies it by the class rate to get the flight miles. Your level adds the Mile-Up Bonus. FLY ON Points are the flight miles times 2 within Japan, 1.5 between Japan and Asia, Oceania or Vladivostok, and 1 on other international flights, plus 400 for most classes. Choose Round trip to count the same flights back the other way, and add the FLY ON Points you already have to see how far you are from the next level.
What the inputs mean
- Airports: where you fly from, where you fly to, and any connections (add a connection for each extra flight). Each flight earns on its own.
- Booking class: the letter on your ticket. International flights earn from 30% (O, Z, G, Q, N) to 150% (F, A) of the distance. A flight within Japan on an international ticket uses JAL's own table for those sectors, which has different rates and does not list every letter.
- Your JAL level: sets the Mile-Up Bonus on flight miles: Crystal 55%, Sapphire 105%, JGC Premier 105%, Diamond 130%, JAL Global Club 35%. It does not change FLY ON Points.
- Credit this flight to: you can credit the flight to American AAdvantage, Atmos Rewards, Flying Blue or British Airways Club instead of JAL Mileage Bank. Choose one to see what the flight earns there, by route and booking class, with your status in that program. The full tables: American AAdvantage on Japan Airlines, Atmos Rewards on Japan Airlines, Flying Blue on Japan Airlines, British Airways Club on Japan Airlines.
Route multipliers
Japan domestic flights count twice, flights between Japan and Asia, Oceania or Vladivostok count one and a half times, and other international flights count once. JAL does not publish a country list, so these follow cwsi's reading of JAL's “Asia, Oceania”: East, Southeast and South Asia, Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific islands (Guam and Saipan included). Hawaii, the Middle East, Europe and the Americas count once. JAL uses its own sector mileage, which can differ from the great-circle distance by a few miles. JAL does not publish its rounding; this calculator drops fractions of a mile (and of a point) on each flight.
Levels
FLY ON Points earned from January to December decide the next year's level: Crystal 30,000, Sapphire 50,000, JGC Premier 80,000 (JAL Global Club members only) and Diamond 100,000, with at least half on JAL Group flights. A level can also be reached by flights: Crystal 30 flights and 10,000 points, Sapphire 50 and 15,000, JGC Premier 80 and 25,000, Diamond 120 and 35,000 (half of the flights on JAL Group). This calculator shows the points route.
Examples
New York JFK to Tokyo Haneda (6,758 miles) in H earns 4,730 flight miles and 5,130 FLY ON Points; a connection on to Osaka Itami (251 miles) in H adds 175 miles and 750 points (175 x 2 + 400). Tokyo Haneda to Bangkok (2,852 miles) in J earns 3,565 flight miles and 5,747 FLY ON Points (3,565 x 1.5 + 400); a Crystal member adds a 1,960-mile Mile-Up Bonus.
