Airbus A340
The A340 is Airbus's four-engine long-range wide-body, developed as one family with the twin-engine A330. The A340-200 and A340-300 have the A330's fuselage cross-section, 18 ft 6 in wide, and its 197 ft 10 in wingspan, and fly on four CFM International CFM56-5C engines; the later A340-500 and A340-600 are longer and heavier, with Rolls-Royce Trent 500 engines. Because it has four engines, it needs no ETOPS approval, the extra certification twin-engine jets need for routes far from a diversion airport.
