United Airlines Fare Class Chart

This chart shows every United Airlines fare class (booking code) and what each one means for earning miles, PQP, and upgrades. Use it to understand exactly what your ticket gets you.

How MileagePlus Miles Are Earned

Since 2026, United calculates miles based on fare paid (not distance). Your earn rate depends on your Premier status and whether you hold a United credit card. The Award Miles column in the chart below shows "Fare + Status + Card" for revenue fares, meaning your base fare is multiplied by an earn rate that depends on your Premier status and United credit card.

Premier Platinum7x10x13x14x15x12x11x
Premier 1K9x12x15x16x17x14x13x

Rates shown as miles per dollar of base fare (before taxes). Max 75,000 miles per ticket.
* Cardmember rate applies just for having a United card; card-specific columns are when paying with that card.
Gateway and Debit Rewards card rates require $10,000 annual spend on the card to activate.

How to Read This Chart

  • Fare: The one- or two-letter booking code on your ticket (e.g., Y, B, K, N).
  • Award Miles: "Fare + Status + Card" means your base fare is multiplied by your earn rate (see table above), which depends on your Premier status and United credit card. "N/A" means the fare class is for award or upgrade tickets and doesn't earn miles.
  • PQP: Premier Qualifying Points — earned at 1 PQP per $1 of base fare (before taxes) on revenue tickets. Used to qualify for Premier status.
  • Pecking Order: Upgrade priority order — lower numbers get upgraded first.
  • Basic Economy (fare class N): Earns at reduced rates. General members without a United card earn no miles.

Good to Know

  • Miles are earned on the base fare and carrier-imposed surcharges. Taxes and government fees do not earn miles.
  • Each traveler earns based on their own Premier and Cardmember status, not the person who booked.
  • Cardmembers earn at the Cardmember rate just for having a United card. Paying with the card earns even more.
  • Only primary Cardmembers earn at the Cardmember rate (not authorized users).
  • United Gateway and Debit Rewards cardholders must spend $10,000 on their card in a calendar year to unlock the Cardmember earn rate and card-specific earn rates.
  • Award and upgrade fare classes (codes ending in N, plus I, X) don't earn miles — earning is based on your original purchased fare class.
  • Effective for tickets issued on or after April 2, 2026.
