SkyMiles Earnings by Fare Class

The fare class and the experience that goes with it matter when earning Delta SkyMiles. SkyMiles members earn 5 miles per $1 spent on a Classic ticket, 7 miles per $1 on Extra (refundable) tickets, and premium cabin fares also earn at the 7 mi/$ rate. Basic Economy (Main Basic) tickets do not earn SkyMiles.

On Delta-operated flights, it's the base fare and carrier-imposed surcharges that count toward earning SkyMiles.

Medallion members earn more, but they also do not earn miles on Delta Main Basic fares. SkyMiles earning rates for Medallion members, regardless of fare class:

  • Silver Medallion: 7 SkyMiles per $1 spent
  • Gold Medallion: 8 SkyMiles per $1 spent
  • Platinum Medallion: 9 SkyMiles per $1 spent
  • Diamond Medallion: 11 SkyMiles per $1 spent

Mileage Upgrade Awards

Within North America (US, Canada, Mexico, Central America, the Caribbean) and Northern South America (Ecuador, Colombia, Venezuela), Mileage Upgrade Awards may be used on published fares booked in Y, B, M, S, H, Q, K, L, U, or T class. • Basic Economy (E) tickets do not earn SkyMiles and are not eligible for complimentary upgrades.
  • Medallion status bonus miles are earned in addition to the base fare rate. Diamond Medallions earn the most at 11 mi/$ on Classic fares.
  • Delta SkyMiles Amex card bonuses stack on top of base + status: Blue/Gold add +2 mi/$, Platinum/Reserve add +3 mi/$ on Delta purchases.
  • Pay with Miles redemptions are not eligible for mileage upgrades, Systemwide, Global, or Regional Upgrades.
  • MQDs are earned on Delta-marketed and Delta-operated flights based on fare paid before taxes and fees.
