Virgin Atlantic Flying Club Points Calculator

Unofficial. See the Virgin Points and Tier Points a Virgin Atlantic flight earns. Rates as published by Virgin Atlantic.

Flying Club pays the distance flown times a percentage set by the booking class, from 25% to 500%, with 30% more for Silver and 60% more for Gold. Tier Points are a fixed number per flight. Choose your airports, connections included, and the calculator measures each flight.

How this calculator works

Choose your airports and your booking class. The calculator measures each flight's great-circle distance with the same airport data as our Great Circle Distance Calculator, multiplies it by the class percentage from Virgin Atlantic's earning page and by your tier (Red 1, Silver 1.3, Gold 1.6), and rounds each flight to whole Virgin Points. Tier Points are counted per flight from the booking class. Choose Round trip to count the same flights back the other way, and add the Tier Points you already have to see how far you are from Silver or Gold.

What the inputs mean

  • Airports: where you fly from, where you fly to, and any connections (add a connection for each extra flight). Each flight earns on its own, Tier Points included.
  • Booking class: the letter on your ticket. Virgin Atlantic groups the letters by product (Upper Class, Premium, Economy Delight, Economy Classic, Economy Light), and each group earns a set percentage of the distance and a set number of Tier Points. G, P and A are used only on Reward flights and companion bookings, which earn Tier Points but no Virgin Points, and Virgin Atlantic publishes no Virgin Points rate for E, so those four are not listed.
  • Your Flying Club tier: Silver members earn 30% more Virgin Points and Gold members 60% more. The tier does not change Tier Points. The 10% High Five bonus some Red members earn is not included.
  • Credit this flight to: you can credit the flight to Delta SkyMiles or Flying Blue instead of Flying Club. Choose one to see what the flight earns there, by route and booking class, with your status in that program. The full tables: Delta SkyMiles on Virgin Atlantic, Flying Blue on Virgin Atlantic.

Silver and Gold

Silver needs 400 Tier Points and Gold 1,000, earned within a 12-month period. Once reached, the tier lasts for 12 months; if you do not requalify, you move down one tier and your Tier Points reset. Reward flights earn Tier Points too, and an upgrade with points earns Tier Points on the class you paid for.

Distance

Virgin Atlantic counts the miles flown on each flight but does not say how it measures them. This calculator uses the great-circle distance, so its figure can differ from your Flying Club statement by a few miles, and it rounds each flight to the nearest mile.

Rounding

Virgin Atlantic's earning page shows the Silver rates rounded to whole percentages (228% for H and K, 33% for T). This calculator uses the exact rates (227.5% and 32.5%) and rounds the points once per flight.

Examples

London Heathrow to New York JFK is about 3,442 miles. In Upper Class (J, C or D, 500%) it earns about 17,210 Virgin Points and 200 Tier Points at Red. In Premium H or K (175%) a Gold member earns about 9,638 Virgin Points (3,442 x 175% x 1.6) and 50 Tier Points. In Economy Light (T, 25%) a Red member earns about 861 Virgin Points and 25 Tier Points.
