United MileagePlus Calculator

Unofficial. See the miles, Premier Qualifying Points (PQP) and Premier Qualifying Flights (PQF) a United ticket earns. Rules as published by United.

United pays 3 to 9 miles per $1 on standard fares by MileagePlus status (0 to 6 on Basic Economy), and cards add 3 to 8. PQP are $1 per $1 of ticket price. Premier Silver needs 5,000 PQP plus 15 PQF, Gold 10,000 plus 30, Platinum 15,000 plus 45 and 1K 22,000 plus 60 in 2026; from 2027 PQF are dropped and 1K needs 32,000 PQP. Miles are capped at 75,000 per ticket.

How this calculator works

Enter the ticket price and the number of flights on the ticket, then pick the fare type, your MileagePlus status and your United card. The calculator multiplies the price by your miles-per-dollar rate, adds the card rate, applies United's cap, and counts the PQP and PQF the ticket adds toward Premier status. The result updates as you change an answer.

What the inputs mean

  • Ticket price: the fare plus carrier-imposed surcharges, without government taxes. Your receipt shows it.
  • Flights on this ticket: each flight (segment) earns 1 PQF. Basic Economy earns none.
  • Fare type: Standard covers Economy and above. Basic Economy shows as fare class N on united.com.
  • United card: pick Cardmember if you hold a United card but are not paying with it.
  • Credit this flight to: you can credit the flight to Aeroplan instead of MileagePlus. Choose one to see what the flight earns there, by route and booking class, with your status in that program. The full tables: Aeroplan on United.

How MileagePlus miles and PQP are earned

Tickets issued by United on or after April 2, 2026 earn miles per $1, set by your status: 3 for a general member, 5 for Silver, 6 for Gold, 7 for Platinum and 9 for 1K. Basic Economy earns 0, 2, 3, 4 or 6. A United card adds 3 (Cardmember), 4 (Gateway Debit), 5 (Gateway), 6 (Explorer), 7 (Quest) or 8 (Club) miles per $1. United publishes only the Cardmember rate for Basic Economy, so on Basic the calculator adds 3 for any card. Gateway and Gateway Debit need $10,000 of card spend in a calendar year to unlock their rates. Miles are capped at 75,000 per ticket.

PQP are $1 per $1 of ticket price. Premier Silver needs 5,000 PQP plus 15 PQF or 6,000 PQP alone, Gold 10,000 plus 30 or 12,000, Platinum 15,000 plus 45 or 18,000, and 1K 22,000 plus 60 or 28,000. Every level also needs at least 4 flights on United or United Express.

That is the 2026 qualifying year, for status in 2027. From January 1, 2027 United drops PQF: status for 2028 takes PQP alone, 6,000 for Silver, 12,000 for Gold, 18,000 for Platinum and 32,000 for 1K, still with at least 4 United or United Express flights. Primary Cardmembers with an eligible United card open on December 31, 2026 who hold Premier status for 2027 start the year with 5% of their level in PQP: 300, 600, 900 or 1,600.

Example

An $800 standard ticket with 2 flights, for a Premier Gold member paying with an Explorer card, earns 4,800 miles from status and 4,800 from the card: 9,600 miles. It adds 800 PQP and 2 PQF.

What it does not cover

Specialty tickets, such as unpublished, bulk, group, tour and opaque fares, earn a share of the flight distance set by the fare class. Star Alliance tickets issued by partner airlines earn by distance and fare class on each partner's chart. The United fare class chart lists the specialty-ticket rates and PlusPoints upgrade prices by letter.
