How this calculator works

Choose your airports and your fare. The calculator measures each flight's great-circle distance with the same airport data as our Great Circle Distance Calculator, decides whether the flight is within Europe and North Africa or intercontinental, and multiplies the distance by your fare's percentage for that zone. Choose Round trip to count the same flights back the other way, and add the TAP flights you have already flown to see how far you are from the next status.

What the inputs mean

• Airports: where you fly from, where you fly to, and any connections (add a connection for each extra flight). Each flight earns on its own, at the rate for its own zone.
• Fare: the fare name on your booking. TAP earns by fare name, not by booking class letter. Discount earns 20%, Classic 70% or 100%, Plus 100% or 150%, Executive 175% and Top Executive 200%. Basic (50%), Prime (150%) and Top Prime (175%) are sold only on intercontinental flights, so the calculator asks you to choose another fare if the trip has a flight within Europe and North Africa. Choose Codeshare if a partner sold you a flight that TAP operates: TAP credits it like a Basic fare, 40% or 50%.
• Your TAP Miles&Go status: Silver members earn 25% extra miles on TAP flights, and Gold and Navigator members 50%. TAP does not spell out what the percentage is of, so the calculator describes it in a note and does not add it to the total.
• Credit this flight to: you can credit the flight to United MileagePlus or Aeroplan instead of TAP Miles&Go. Choose one to see what the flight earns there, by route and booking class, with your status in that program. The full tables: United MileagePlus on TAP Air Portugal, Aeroplan on TAP Air Portugal.

The two zones

TAP's table has two zones, "Europe and North Africa" and "Intercontinental", and does not list which countries each holds. This calculator counts a flight as Europe and North Africa when both airports are in Europe (Madeira, the Azores, the Canary Islands, Türkiye and Cyprus included) or in Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Libya or Egypt. Every other flight is Intercontinental, including flights to Israel, the rest of Africa and the Americas. TAP measures distance by IATA standards between the origin and destination on your ticket, which can differ a little from the great-circle distance used here, and does not publish its rounding; this calculator drops fractions of a mile on each flight.

Status

Silver needs 30,000 Status Miles or 25 TAP flights in your annual period, Gold 70,000 or 50 flights, and Navigator 125,000 or 70 flights, ten of them on Plus, Prime, Top Prime, Executive or Top Executive fares. TAP does not say in one sentence that the Bonus Miles from the fare also count as Status Miles, so the progress bars count TAP flights, which TAP does state, and this trip's Status Miles are not added. The Status Miles you enter appear beside the thresholds in the note.

Examples

Lisbon to New York is about 3,366 miles, so Classic earns 3,366 Bonus Miles (100%), Plus 5,049 (150%) and Top Executive 6,732 (200%). Lisbon to Paris is about 907 miles within Europe: Classic earns 634 (70%), Plus 907 (100%) and Executive 1,587 (175%). TAP publishes no worked example; these follow its percentages.
