South African Airways Voyager Miles Calculator
Unofficial. See the Voyager miles an SAA-operated flight earns on the fare you paid. Rules as published by Voyager.
Voyager pays one mile for every R1.60 of the published base fare and carrier-imposed fees on SAA-operated flights. Silver, Gold and Platinum add a tier bonus of 25%, 50% or 75% of tier miles, and tiers need 20,000, 45,000 or 95,000 tier miles in a calendar year.
How this calculator works
Enter the base fare and carrier-imposed fees in South African rand. The calculator divides the amount by R1.60 and drops any part of a mile. The result updates as you change the amount.
What the input means
- Base fare and carrier-imposed fees: the published base fare plus the fees the carrier imposes, without taxes. Voyager pro-rates the miles per flown sector over the total base fare and carrier-imposed fees paid for the ticket, so enter the part of the fare that belongs to the flight, or the whole ticket for the ticket total. Type the amount, with R or ZAR before it if you like (R1,500).
- Flights this applies to: SAA-operated flights, flight numbers SA001 to SA999, on SAA revenue tickets. Flights with a 4-digit SAA number on Star Alliance airlines earn by the class of travel and distance flown under the operating airline's rules.
- Credit this flight to: you can credit the flight to United MileagePlus, Aeroplan or Flying Club instead of Voyager. Choose one to see what the flight earns there, by route and booking class, with your status in that program. How Voyager miles are earned
Miles from SAA-operated flights are credited up to 15 days after the flight. Travel industry reduced rates (including tour operator tickets), unpublished fares, charter tickets, Voyager award tickets, and compensation and sponsorship tickets earn no miles. Voyager does not say how a part of a R1.60 step is treated, so this calculator rounds down. The South African Airways chart lists the booking classes Voyager names.
Tiers and the tier bonus
Tiers come from tier miles earned in a calendar year on SAA or Star Alliance flights: Silver 20,000, Gold 45,000 and Platinum 95,000. On SAA operating and marketing flights Silver adds 25%, Gold 50% and Platinum 75% of the tier miles awarded. Voyager does not publish how many tier miles a Rand-priced flight awards, and does not publish the Class of Service Bonus rates as page text, so this calculator shows neither the tier bonus nor tier progress.
Example
A flight with R3,200 of base fare and carrier-imposed fees earns 3,200 / 1.60 = 2,000 Voyager miles before any tier bonus or class bonus.
