Air New Zealand Airpoints and Status Points Calculator
Unofficial. See the Airpoints and Status Points an Air New Zealand flight earns. Rates as published by Air New Zealand.
Koru pays a fixed number of Airpoints and Status Points per Air New Zealand flight, set by the route, the booking class and, in Economy on domestic, Tasman and Pacific Islands flights, the fare. Choose your airports, connections included, and the calculator finds Air New Zealand's table for each flight.
How this calculator works
Choose your airports, your booking class and, in Economy, your fare. The calculator looks up each flight's airports with the same airport data as our Great Circle Distance Calculator, finds the route in Air New Zealand's own earn tables (the ones behind its Koru earnings calculator), and reads the Airpoints and Status Points for your class and fare. Each flight (sector) earns on its own. Choose Round trip to price the same flights back the other way, and add the Status Points you already have to see how far you are from Silver, Gold, Platinum or Black.
What the inputs mean
- Airports: where you fly from, where you fly to, and any connections (add a connection for each extra flight). The direction matters in Air New Zealand's table, and a route it does not list is shown as not counted.
- Booking class: the letter on your ticket. J, Z, D and C are Business Premier; A, O, E and U Premium Economy; Y, B, M, H, Q, V, W, T, L, S, G, K, P and F Economy. N, I, R and X earn nothing.
- Economy fare: on domestic flights Seat, Seat+Bag, Flexi Change or Flexi Refund; on flights to Australia and the Pacific Islands Seat, Seat+Bag, The Works or Works Flexi (The Works and Works Flexi earn the same). Long-haul Economy, Premium Economy and Business Premier earn the same on every fare.
- Your Koru tier: the tier does not add Airpoints on flights; it is used to show what you need to reach or keep a tier.
- Credit this flight to: you can credit the flight to United MileagePlus, Aeroplan or Flying Club instead of Airpoints. Choose one to see what the flight earns there, by route and booking class, with your status in that program. The full tables: United MileagePlus on Air New Zealand, Aeroplan on Air New Zealand, Flying Club on Air New Zealand.
The tables
- Domestic: three fare groups within New Zealand (Economy only).
- Tasman: three fare groups between New Zealand and Australia.
- Pacific Islands: two fare groups (Apia, Niue, Nadi, Noumea, Rarotonga, Tonga; Papeete).
- Pacific long haul: six fare groups: New York; Los Angeles and San Francisco; Chicago; Vancouver; Honolulu and Los Angeles to Nadi or Papeete; Houston.
- Asia and Japan: Bali, Hong Kong and Beijing, Seoul, Shanghai, Singapore, Taipei and Tokyo Narita.
Silver, Gold, Platinum and Black
Koru tiers are based on the Status Points earned in any rolling 12 months: Silver 450 (405 to keep), Gold 900 (810), Platinum 1,500 (1,350) and Black 3,200 (3,040). Half of them for Silver and Gold, and 60% for Platinum and Black, must come from qualifying flights, which include Air New Zealand operated flights. You move up as soon as you reach a tier. Status Points last 12 months.
Not included
Partner-airline flights (Star Alliance and other partners earn by distance band and service class; the table is on the Air New Zealand fare chart), the Status Points Bonus for every 10 qualifying journeys, Status Points from credit cards, and Airpoints from everyday spending. Air New Zealand says its calculator shows base earn only: deal and Compassionate fares may earn less, tickets bought with Flexipay earn 20% of these rates, and redemption tickets earn nothing. Booking class X: the Koru terms say it earns nothing although Air New Zealand's calculator data lists rates for it; this calculator follows the terms.
Examples
Auckland to Sydney in M on a Seat fare earns 10.8 Airpoints and 52 Status Points, or 17.6 Airpoints and 63 Status Points on The Works. Auckland to Los Angeles in Y earns 83 Airpoints and 125 Status Points, and Wellington to Auckland to Los Angeles in Y on a Seat fare 14 plus 83, that is 97 Airpoints and 155 Status Points. Auckland to Hong Kong in Premium Economy U earns 137 Airpoints and 151 Status Points.
