British Airways Avios and Tier Points Calculator

Unofficial. See the Avios and tier points a British Airways flight earns on the fare you paid. Rules as published by British Airways.

British Airways pays 6 (Blue), 7 (Bronze), 8 (Silver) or 9 (Gold) Avios per £1 of the fare, and 1 tier point per £1 plus extra tier points for each flight, set by the cabin and fare type. Bronze needs 3,500 tier points, Silver 7,500 and Gold 20,000; from 1 April 2027 Silver needs 8,000 and Gold 21,000.

How this calculator works

Enter the fare you paid for the whole ticket in pounds, the number of flights on it, and any paid add-ons. Then pick short or long haul, the cabin, the fare type and your tier. The calculator multiplies the fare by your Avios rate, counts 1 tier point per pound, adds 2 tier points per pound on add-ons, and adds the extra tier points for each flight. The result updates as you change an answer.

What the inputs mean

  • Fare paid: the base fare plus carrier-imposed charges for the whole ticket, in pounds, without government taxes and airport charges. If you paid in another currency, British Airways converts it at the IATA 5-day rate on the day you bought the ticket.
  • Number of flights: each flight earns the extra tier points, so a return trip is 2 flights and a connection adds one per leg.
  • Add-ons: paid seats, extra bags and sustainable aviation fuel (SAF). They earn 2 tier points per £1 and Avios at your tier rate. Tier points from SAF are capped at 2,000 per membership year.
  • Cabin and fare type: Euro Traveller and Club Europe on short haul; World Traveller, World Traveller Plus, Club World and First on long haul. Basic is the Basic Economy fare.
  • Your tier: Blue, Bronze, Silver or Gold when you fly. It sets the Avios rate.
  • When you fly: up to 31 March 2027, or from 1 April 2027, when British Airways lowers the extra tier points on World Traveller Plus Premium Economy, Club World and First fares and raises the Silver and Gold thresholds.
  • Credit this flight to: you can credit the flight to Atmos Rewards instead of British Airways Club. Choose one to see what the flight earns there, by route and booking class, with your status in that program. The full tables: Atmos Rewards on British Airways.

How Avios and tier points are earned

British Airways-marketed flights earn Avios on the eligible spend: 6 per £1 for Blue, 7 for Bronze, 8 for Silver and 9 for Gold. Tier points are 1 per £1 of eligible spend, plus extra tier points per flight from 75 (Euro Traveller Plus) to 1,250 (First Fully-Flex) up to 31 March 2027. From 1 April 2027 the long-haul premium cabins earn less: World Traveller Plus Premium Economy 175 (now 275), Club World 200 to 800 (now 500 to 1,100) and First 300 to 900 (now 650 to 1,250); short haul and World Traveller stay the same. Basic Economy fares earn no extra tier points, but still earn Avios and tier points on the fare. The British Airways fare chart lists every cabin and fare type.

Tier points are collected from 1 April to 31 March: Bronze needs 3,500, Silver 7,500 and Gold 20,000, and from 1 April 2027 Bronze 3,500, Silver 8,000 and Gold 21,000. You can also reach Bronze with 25 flights, or Silver with 50, on a British Airways flight code in the same year.

Example

British Airways' own example for 2027: ten Club Europe (Business) return trips to Madrid earn 5,300 tier points from spend plus 3,500 extra tier points (20 flights at 175 each): 8,800 tier points, enough for Silver at 8,000. A Silver member paying £1,000 for a Club World Business return earns 8,000 Avios and 2,000 tier points up to 31 March 2027 (1,000 from spend and 500 extra for each of the 2 flights), or 1,400 tier points from 1 April 2027 (200 extra per flight).

What it does not cover

Reward Flights earn no Avios or tier points (eligible add-ons still earn tier points). With Avios part payment, tier points are earned on the full eligible spend before the discount; with a discount code, on the spend after it. British Airways Holidays packages and some partner and agency fares earn a percentage of the miles flown instead, and American Airlines and Iberia flights earn their own extra tier points by cabin. British Airways' own flight calculator covers those.
